Bad Romance

The story of Joseph we read for class today got me thinking. In the beginning Aseneth hated all men and absolutely refused to get married; she semed strong and wasn't going to let anyone tell her what to do. The the story took a turn: she was enthralled over Joseph, crying, begging him to marry her. She was weak and needed him to survive. I see this case too often with so many young girls they are strong young women with goals and dreams and then, it seems, as soon as a man enters her life its all out the window. She has no goals in life other than to follow her man. This drives me crazy! Why can't two people be together and both have goals and desires to do things with their lives? Why does one person have to give that up? It seems so strange to me that so many girls are willing to drop everything the second another person walks into their lives; its like they become a totally different person. It makes me wonder, what else about their identity has changed? Will they just adopt that of their significant others? It is possible for two people to have separate identities and still coexist, even though it seems no one believes that. I guess such drastic changes in personality baffle me. I've seen it happen to so many people its heartbreaking, to witness everything they stood for go out the window. It also makes me sad to think that maybe they weren't as strong set in who they are as they seemed. Maybe the end of one of those "bad romances" were what they needed to find their true identity...
