Between Parkland & Peghot

Today, I woke up to one my roommates cooking and the sun coming though the window, so far the best way to wake up.  We started off with getting our stuff packed for the rest of the day and had a quick bite to eat, once my roommates and I were ready we headed out; our first stop COFFEE! I am not a big coffee person but for some it was a necessity. It doesn’t bother me, I was content with trying the café’s hot chocolate and a croissant and they were phenomenal. At last we were on our way to walk around Athens and take in the sights. We decided to head in the direction near where we were the day before. We had no real plan, just certain things that we wanted to go see or explore. When walking though Athens, the people are extremely generous to our group, wanting us to take a look at their menu and telling us we would receive a discount on different things if we sat down to eat. After this happened a couple of times, I began to get kind of hungry.  We ended up eating at a restaurant on a terraced staircase. I ordered a roasted lamb with vegetables, rice, and potatoes; it came with a house wine and a green salad. Everything about this meal was mind-blowing, it was beyond perfect. Once we were done with our meal it was time to meet up with a classmate. Our group grew; we headed out once again to discover what Athens could show us. It didn’t seem to bother the locals that we couldn’t speak Greek, but there was always a smile on their face when we attempted to use the customary greeting. I enjoyed seeing all of the hospitality that was a part of the Greek culture, was really nice to see; people always happy and energetic. Today was the first class of our study away program; it was followed by going out to eat as a group in a nearby restaurant. Here we had a little sample of everything, as before the food was spectacular. Afterwards we decided to go on another stroll of Greece; in a different area at night this time we were able to experience Greece’s evening, or dinner hour environment. After the group made it back to the apartments, a small group of friends and I asked if we could stay out a little longer and go find a café or bar. We were able to continue the amazing day, have some drinks and enjoy each other’s company a little longer, now it’s the end of our long day and I am looking forward to find out what tomorrow brings.
