Jordyn the Greek

Over the past couple weeks I have become increasingly acquainted with Greek culture. I have eaten Greek food, I have seen Greek archeological sites, and I have taken Greek transportation. As I become more familiar with the customs of Greek culture, I enjoy being here even more.

The first two weeks of this adventure were spent in the large city of Athens on mainland Greece. A couple days ago we travelled to the island of Rhodes for a new perspective on Greek culture. Today many of my classmates and I took a ferry trip over to the island of Symi and saw yet another piece of Greek culture.

While the city of Rhodes is built on tourism and therefore caters to tourists specifically, Symi is mainly a residential island with a few attractions for the curious passerby. The atmosphere in Symi is very relaxed. There were few people in the streets and the town looked exactly like I had imagined Greece to look like from the movies I have seen that take place here. The streets are narrow, the buildings are old and the views are gorgeous.

Now that I have experienced three different pieces of Greek culture, I am truly getting a feel for this country. I still have much to learn before I could comfortably fit in for an extended period of time, but I am well on my way to being Jordyn the Greek.
