Let's Do the Time Warp Again (and again and agian!!!)
1/13/2011 02:41:00 PMI think it really hit me when Professor Finitsis asked, as he usually does, "People? When was this church dedicated?" and then pointed to the number 946 on the signpost. All of us stood in collective silence as we processed this information. We had just been in a 1,000 year old Byzantine church. The stunning mosaics and scent of incense had us all feeling transported to a different century, and I think made us all realize how truly lucky we are to be here. At least that was the case for me. Today was probably the most amazing day I can remember having, as most of my classmates will allude to. Climbing through the ruins at Delphi, and for me, feeling the history of ancient Greece surround me, witnessing a 1,000 year old BEAUTIFUL Byzantine monastery, and even meeting a few new Greek friends (pictured above), well, feline friends anyway. The minute this sweetie pranced up to me, purring and rubbing against my ankles such as my beloved Oreo and Austin do at home, I knew I was falling deeper and deeper in love with this country. Not to mention the weather could not have been much better for us today! "How many of you know there's snow on the ground in Tacoma?" Professor Finitsis asked as the bus rounded the bend to the monastery. I just had to chuckle at that. Celebrating being here and the things we are learning, doing and seeing beats out the snow any day. Not to mention I could really go for some of that lamb again....so much better than ANYTHING we get in the states!
