Well this, for anyone who isn't familiar, is the "naval of the world" in Delphi. This photo reminds me of the story of Daniel, more specifically Daniel chapter 3. Here his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refuse to worship a statue the king has erected, they are sentenced to death but they survive the fiery furnace. Daniels friends were unwilling to compromise their faith by worshiping someone other than their god and I was unwilling to let the obnoxious tourists hoarding around the naval take away my opportunity to capture this amazing piece of history. The tourists were as unwilling as I was, surrounding the naval taking pictures with it, climbing over the fence to touch it and lifting their shirts obnoxiously to point to their own navals. They weren't courteous and definitely weren't going to move for anyone but, I would not move on until I got my picture. I waited patiently then when the opportunity came, Dr. Ihssen and I snuck in the middle of the crowd and snapped our photos. I, like Daniel's friends, was unwilling to compromise and we all ended up successful.
