It is amazing to think, how many people have steeped foot inside the Acropolis, like my classmates and I did today. I am not just talking about all of the tourists that come currently, but how many people since the construction of the Acropolis and even before that (because the location of the Acropolis was very strategic in nature due to the walls acting as the main defense for the Athens.) The Acropolis has changed many hands over the years, and by years I mean since the 6th millennium BC until now, and by hands I mean the Persians, the Hellenistic and Roman periods, the Byzantine, Latin, and Ottoman Empires, and the Greek War of Independence, and is now a monument of the European Cultural Heritage, so quite a few hands. But after that little lesson on what information I retained from today and some help from Wikipedia, my main point is, I wish the walls could talk. I wish that they could tell the people who walk through them about all of the people who walked through them before and share their stories. Telling the current occupants of the past but also getting the stories from those occupants so the tradition can continue. This idea is something I have always wished for, but to be in a place full of history and so many stories due to the past of the Acropolis, I cant help but wish for it more! The people and their stories, told by the walls that witnessed these events, would be a trip in itself. The ability to know the history from a first hand experience even including the destruction and wars, but also the prosperity and wealth, the good the bad, the happy and the sad, all of it, told from the walls, of the people, would just be magnificent.
