Dr. Ihssen made an observation in class today that, I feel, we really didn't flesh out enough. In the text of one of the Sibylline Oracles, there is a list of titans followed by a list of kingdoms. Dr. Ihssen made the comment that the titans are legends, myths, and the kingdoms are real, but perhaps meant to be regarded in the same sort of wondrous, 'how can this be' light as the titans were (forgive me if I misinterpret the point of the lecture.) I think this is a really cool idea, that myth and reality are not so different. It's sort of an Inception-like perception, but can't I steal from another film, V For Vendetta, and say that while some use lies to cover up the truth, others use lies to tell the truth? Just because a myth isn't 'real' doesn't mean it isn't 'true.' Dr. Finitsis has been emphasizing the importance of stories for the entire class. There is power in stories, whether they actually happened or not. There is identity found in them. Remember the titans.
