So the class had a little bit of fun today. Just a tad ;) haha. The movie 300 is everywhere here, even on shirts in the streets of Athens, but the fever becomes palpable as you near the statue of the statue of the Spartan king Leonidas in the town of Sparti. Some locals driving by in a truck decided yo scream the immortal line Gerard Butler yells out in this YouTube clip:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkWS9PiXekE
Above are two of my favorite photos of the day. One of two cats in Mystras who decided to share a planter as a bed. As of today I was also dubbed the "crazy cat lady" of the trip! Because I just love them. Something I noticed about Sparta and Mystras is the distinct smell, and the quiet peacefulness of the area surrounding Mystras. Definitely a contrast to the hustle and bustle of Athens that we have been used to for the last week and a half. Tomorrow will be a complete change of scenery as we head to the island of Rhodes. Which is kind of crazy. I feel like I just got used to my little apartment in Athens and life here. Who knows what our time in Rhodes will bring, I just hope that the weather holds out. One thing this trip has taught me is that rolling with the punches is the way to be, also that you never know when an amazing site will be around the corner for you to see. Life is beautiful, and that shouldn't be forgotten in the hustle and bustle of every day life. Going to the Greek Islands has been a dream of mine for a long time, and it is coming true tomorrow morning! So, in life, you just never know when a dream will come true. It is hard to believe I will head home in a week, but I will do so a better person for having seen the things I have seen. It makes me sad to think I will have to leave, but at the same time I feel I NEED to go home and share my experience with those I love back home too!
