Today, I was able to experience a Greek first, public transportation. Last J-Term while in China, we look the underground metro all of the time, and I got very comfortable using it, even though it was small, very crowded, and to get out on your stop you had to be a bit pushy, but eventually become relaxed with it at the same time. But this tram was a bit different. It was above ground and went with the flow of traffic, abiding by the lights and rules of the road. When we first got on, to head towards the shore, the tram was not very crowded and I thought, wow, this will be a breeze. But as we progressed further into the city, the tram got more and more crowded and by the time we where in the middle of the ride, I was squished between many Greek locals who had hands full of groceries and on their way to many destinations. The ebb and flow of people changed again as we got closer to the last stop, which happened to be where our destination lie. The tram etiquette, which is much more polite than China, if China had any at all, was that if someone looked like they were struggling or was older than the one who was sitting, the person sitting would stand up and insist the other taking their spot. Even when the tram was packed, I saw this caring etiquette continue over and over again. When we finally arrived at the shore, we spent the afternoon walking on the beach, eating gelato and doing what we have learned to do best, sit and talk for hours.
