At heart, I'm an unabashed misanthrope. I am not a people person. I can fake it pretty well, but when I am low on energy, I assume the role of observer. People are much more interesting to just watch, I think.
But, like anyone, I do enjoy developing connections.
By allowing me to wear the Chieftain's hat, the natives have accepted me into their culture. |
Here I mingle with the locals, getting a sense for the social semiosphere of Athens' 20-something scene. Shortly thereafter, we traveled to a place called Gazi, which is a very popular bar & club locale for young Greeks.
It is loud and it is flashy. Not as loud and not as flashy as Los Angeles or that money-pit in Nevada, but perhaps loud and flashy by Greek standards. It is actually rather tasteful, and the clubs all appear to operate under the same managers rather than compete with each other outright.
But I digress. The people I have met on this trip have all been surprisingly wonderful. This sense of trust will be greatly missed.
