My Moment In Greece

Part of me wants to write about Delphi or the archaeological museums, the memories of long-dead gods and culture. Part of me wants to write about Athens or the economic struggle, the present and future of modern Greece. But the prompt for this blog is to consider a moment I consider key for my experience in Greece. As I consider the past month, which already seems like a lifetime ago (odd how just yesterday I was on the other side of the globe,) I think to what memories will really stick with me.

Conversations.

We spent most nights sitting in cafes or bars until the early hours of the morning, talking and posing questions to each other. It's these memories, stories, and jokes we shared with each other that I consider key to my experience in Greece. Yes, we are all Americans from pretty similar economic, political, and social backgrounds. But discovering the differences even within ourselves opens the door to a better awareness of all people, whether we are mostly similar or completely different. We all have stories to tell, and we are all fascinating.
