Athens Adventure Begins

We have arrived in Athens and have spent the first adventurous afternoon and evening of many to come, I am sure. We began the day with luggage and long flights but arrived safely to Athens. The drive to our apartments quickly made it known that we were not in Seattle anymore, with sunny skies, orange trees and a beautiful view of the Acropolis.
When traveling to new places everyone has expectations and the first of mine that was broken was the traffic. I expected much worse for traffic in Athens. I have travled to a few foreign countries and expected a little more chaos and speed from the Hellenes. Still this doesn't mean our group never got run off the road or narrowly missed by a car, just not as often as I had expected.
We also got to take a run through the city, that seemed to be more like a corn maze by the end than really getting a better lay of the land. However, it did bring me my first impression of Athens. My immpression for the first day of Athens is that though some things may be less than what you expected most everything else is better and nothing like you could have thought. Such as, the view of the Acropolis at night, the size even from the bottom of the hill without being up close and personal is inspiring. As well as, the outdoor cafes and spirit of Athens were both great things to get a taste of by just walking through. I hope that the adventure in Athens continues and the great first impressions.
