Bad Weather Causes An At Home Feeling.

Today, it rained. It rained like it rains at home, big strong drops, falling non-stop, soaking everything in their path. To anyone who didn’t grow up or live in the good old Pacific Northwest, this may have been a minor tragedy, but to me, it just made Greece feel a little bit more like home. Athens is just as beautiful under a gray sky as it is under the bright blue I had viewed it since we arrived almost a week ago. The gray sky almost seemed refreshing though, as awful as that sounds, but it put me in my niche, my place of calm, which was probably good because after class today we went on a 6 hour walk, just Haney, Ted, and I though the parts of Athens we hadn’t seen yet. The rain helped me feel relaxed and the crepes, that you can get either sweet or savory, (Haney chose savory while ted and I stuck with sweet) just gave me the right amount of sugar high to walk through alleys, up hills, down hills, and all over what we decided had to be the much less touristy side of Athens. We did stop at a café to have a coffee as the high from our sugar earlier in the day wore off and had to switch back to the usual method of caffeine. At this organized clutter of a café, that was decorated with lamps and “fall” colors (which again made me feel at home) we had the best iced coffee with rich, thick foam on top, the true name escapes me now, but I hope to regain it, so I can order this fluffy caffeine heaven again. Each day Athens is becoming a more and more familiar place to me and the events of today that hominess is just growing stronger and I cant help but enjoy every moment of it.
