My second day in Athens was marked by a late rise, and more walking around the city. With the Acropolis 15 minutes away, it was easy to justify orbiting the hill as we did last night. This path took us through Plaka, the busy, entertaining, and charming tourist district North Westish of the Acropolis. The narrow streets were lined with stores, booths, miscellaneous vendors, coffee shops and places to eat. The walkways are serviced by armies of men all attempting to convince us that their food is the best we will have. This circle around arguably the most recognizable icons of the classic times allows you to get lost in winding streets, then emerge onto walkways with views of the Parthenon and the rest of the Athenian hill. After meandering through the streets again, we made it back to our apartments and meet up with the rest of our group for more of the academic focus of this trip. Once we fulfilled that obligation, our entire group went to a nearby tavern for a large family style meal that was augmented by good wine and even better talk. After more exploring of the city at night, five of us sat in a nearby cafe for several hours talking and enjoying the our presence in Greece. In all, can't really complain.
