After the first full day one thing is for sure, Athens is a beautiful city and today's sunny weather really brought that out. Wandering through the Plaka, around the acropolis and through the flea market were wonderful sights and great for pictures. I'm sure I will soon be filling up all my memory cards. After going through the flea market I'm confident there is something to buy there for anyone and everyone. Some of the stands even reminded me of garage sales neighborhoods have back home with every used trinket you can imagine.
Today was also filled with many of my first tastes of the local food. This morning I had a cup of Greek coffee, and coming from a big coffee loving family and home of Starbucks city, I'd have to say it was quite good. Even though by the end of the cup the grits are like when you leave coffee in the pot for 3 days. For Lunch I had Mousaka, which was recommended by a Greek friend and it was great, full of rich flavor and definately falling under "comfort food". We went to dinner as a group and had what was like a small tour of greek food with pelnty of appetizers and entree choices. Which of course was just as good, meats were deilicous and fried zucchini perfect.
However my favorite part of the day was during our meandering, up towards the acropolis our little walking group stopped in a small garden, sat on the benches, and purely took in Athens. The view was nice and the chance to soak it in was even better.
