I Can See Turkey From My House!

No, seriously. I can see Turkey from my window. The view here in Rhodes is absolutely spectacular - I can't even believe I can see the Mediterranean from our hotel. I'm so excited to spend some time in this quiet island, especially since we're here in the off season.
Today an encounter with a local restaurant owner got me thinking about how each of us has our own story. The people we've chatted with in Greece have been so interested in where we're from, why we're in Greece, and what we're studying. People ask: "where are you from? USA?" And everyone has their story about the USA - like the restaurant owner who was born in Indiana, or a tourist shop owner the other day who got her degree through an American university in Athens. I love how people here want to actually talk with you and get to know you. At home, usually your waiter brings you your food or the cashier takes your money and that's it. They don't care who you are or what you're shopping for or anything, and they definitely don't want to share any information about themselves with you. It's a very nice change of pace to be in a country that values hospitality in this way. I love how everyone has a story.
