"Practice this phrase people!!!" Was Dr. Finitsis's command to us as we drove toward our hotel on the island of Rhodes. Upon our arrival, we discovered that we had balconies over looking the Mediterranean Sea. Definitely not bad, not bad at all. As usual we set about exploring this little town. Immediately upon entering the old City of Rhodes we all felt we had taken a step back in time. It was beautiful. Walking through and seeing lovely little shops and cafe's and the beach on the other side was just beautiful. The water has a turquoise quality to it, even in winter that can't be described. Makes me think of every picture and movie I've seen of the Greek islands. I would say, though, that dinner had to be the highlight of my day today. Sharing food with wonderful people is always a pleasure, but sharing food with a Greek mother, now THAT is an experience! As Jessica mentioned in her blog, we got very sage advice this evening from a lovely Greek mother. When I commented that my mom says I "eat like a truck driver" everyone at the table howled with laughter. "You are young! Eat! You have a long life ahead of you and you need fortification!" Was the reply of Dr. Finitsis's mother. I couldn't help but smile and agree, and, of course continue eating my veal. Looking out over the Mediterranean, I know I will carry this experience with me for a very long time. Though I definitely consider myself the "old lady" of this trip, because by the end of the day when my classmates and fellow travellers get to discussing clubbing and going out on the town, I just want to discuss sitting in bed with my romance novel, my music and drifting off to sleep. Tomorrow night I have vowed I will try my best to get out there with them. We are "hitting the pavement pretty hard" on this trip, as Dr. Ihssen commented earlier, so I don't feel TOO bad about not going out, but it would be nice to have the energy. I just don't despite my daily satisfaction of my Coke addiction.
