Just as Daniel refused compromise the strict diet of his faith at the comand of King Nebuchadnezzar, the monks of the Osias Lukas monatery have refused to compromise their way of life. The monastery was erected over 1,000 years ago in 946 CE. Yet even today the monks who work and contemplate there remain traditional and orthodox.
Daniel would not compromise his faith prescibed diet. The monks will not compromise their faith-based way of life despite a changing world outside their valley. And despite their obstinance toward outside influence, both thrive spiritually and physically.
