Susanna verse 22-24; 42-43. The character Susanna is a woman of uncompromising spirit, when faced with difficulty and coercion she stands her ground. When no one around her supported her, and she was left out in the cold, Susanna held fast to herself, traditions and what she knew was right. Even if others would mistake her morals & actions and accuse her. This picture reminds me of the uncompromising spirit of Susanna because it is a tree blossoming with flowers, in the cold winter, high in the mountains of Delphi. This single tree was a picturesque way of showing one standing ground and pushing through against the cold and difficulty. This tree like Susanna, who loses all support, triumphs without the help of spring. The blossomed tree is a beauty who stands alone. I think the picture (whether the tree is supposed to be blossoming or not) is a striking way to show the courage and steadfast character of one who holds to their beliefs.
