Live Free or Die Hard

In the book of Maccabees there is a switch from a feeling of turn the other cheek to now standing up and fighting for what that which you believe in. The Maccabean revolt was inspiring in many ways to the Jews to rise up and "rebuild" what they had been prosecuted for. Part of this was taking up arms and the other was instilling a sense of pride to take back the temple which had been defiled with the presence of Zeus' statue. They had to rebuild their temple to gain the cleanliness and the holy of holies that was present of the temple. Since then the temple has switched hands many times during its lifespan, but the Jews still have hope for their rebuilding of their sacred temple. They will not compromise in striving to rebuild their temple and restore their holy of holies. We have seen firsthand the effects of this going on in the middle east.

The Greeks built the Parthenon atop the Acropolis, and in its thousands of years it to has changed hands and undergone major turmoil and destruction. The place has been ransacked, torn apart by Christians, made into different structures, and blown to pieces by the Ottomans. At this point in time there is a huge emphasis by the Greek state to rebuild that which has been lost. They are trying very hard to rebuild and get the full effect back without compromising the use of original pieces that belong to the Parthenon. This is their culture and more broadly a major culture for the world. The Greeks have and will always strive to preserve their heritage, ancient buildings, artifacts, and land. All for the sake of a sense of national pride, money, and the strength to endure the ages and doing so unconditionally since the major programs to rebuild have been founded.
