What an eventful day in Athens! Each day here I am more and more impressed by the beauty of the city and the vibrance of its culture. The cafes that stay open till all hours of the night, the meat market with the heads of animals still intact, and the picturesque restaurants on top of hills all amaze me. So far, I have been trying to push myself to step outside my comfort zone and try new things; after all, what's the point of traveling if you refuse to see the world through a new lens? The one thing that I think I may not be able to adapt to, though, is the amount of seafood Greeks eat. I have never been a big fan of seafood, and I just can't picture myself eating octopus and calamari on a regular basis. However, from what I have seen thus far, I am enthralled by the Greek culture. Despite the fact that we're staying in a major city, everything seems much more relaxed here than it does in major American cities. Citizens strolling through the streets seem calm and collected, not stressed and frazzled like most Americans. Perhaps this has something to do with the different schedule, including a later wake up time and an afternoon siesta. Since I consider myself to be a night person, I think I could definitely adapt to this schedule, and I think I would even be more productive that way. Even if I can't completely shift my time schedule, I would like to adopt aspects of that more laid back lifestyle.
