The culture in Greece is definitely a lot different than that of the U.S. There are some things that I would love to bring back to the states and others I wouldn't be too sad to leave here. First of all I love starting the day later instead of very early in the morning, but who wouldn't? I think that one of the main things I really like about the atmosphere here is the time people spend with each other at the cafes. People go out in the evening to have a coffee and socialize, they spend hours sitting at the same table chatting with friends and family. In the states I feel like we get so caught up in work or school that we forget to take the time to just talk to our loved ones and give them the attention they deserve. Also, in the U.S. you feel the push to leave your table as soon as your finished eating so the next customer can sit but here you can sit at the same table all night and no one will give you the evil eye to get you to move. One thing that I am not too fond of, and probably wouldn't be able to get used to, is all of the somke. It seems as though everyone is smoking and the ashtrays at the restaurant tables really threw me for a loop; I haven't seen that in the states in a very long time. Another thing that I don't think I could adapt to would be the city life. There are so many people, cars, cramped buildings, and loud noises; which is very different than the atmosphere I am used to. I need room the breathe, lots of trees around and dead quiet nights all of which the city cannot offer. All in all I wouldn't want to bring the hustle and bustle of city life home but I would definitely want to take more time out of my day to spend with family and friends.
