Yesterday began with an early meeting time of 7:30am. We all loaded onto a tour bus that, due to its color, antenna like mirrors, and solid hubcaps, seemed to resemble a giant red ant. After settling into my seat, I fell asleep and woke up several hours later when the bus stopped for a coffee break at the base of Mediterranean mountains. After meandering out way through the very picturesque landscape, we stopped at Osios Loukas, a 1065 year old Byzantine monastery modeled after the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople (modern day Istanbul). After The monastery, we headed up Mt. Parnassos to the mythological navel of the world, Delphi. The beauty of these two places is so humbling and incredible that I don't think that I will try to describe them. Any depiction I give will fall far short of doing justice to these places that so deserve to be justified. I guess that I am not one of the luck few that are inspired and talented enough to capture such significance. Instead, I will merely say "I get it." Standing, looking out over these two jaw dropping views, I understand why these places are where they are and have the influence and importance that they have. It would be very difficult to be experience Delphi and Osios Loukas and not feel something, be moved somehow, leave the same as you came.
