Yesterday we went to the Acropolis museum, and I did not get the chance to blog about it and I feel the experience was so memorable that I need to blog about it today. I have been to several other museums during travels and have been blessed to see beautiful artwork such as that at the Louvre, but going to the Acropolis museum was special for me. This was because one of my favorite parts of the Louvre was the Greek sculptures, so you can imagine why I would love the Acropolis museum. A whole museum filled with Greek sculpture, and not just any, but that which surrounded the Parthenon! now that is a treat. My favorite part, and that which really stuck with me, was the third floor and the use of the layout representing the actual structure of the Parthenon. Seeing the true size and length of the frieze was remarkable, and much better than just imagining it. Being able to sit and look at the almost full bodied gods AND the Acropolis through the glass was just as wonderful of a setting. It was almost magical seeing the hill lit up while looking into the detail of the heavenly sculptures. I am always awestruck by the greeks understanding to the human form and body, their sculpting is always impecable and takes you aback. However, taking in one of my favorite art forms in the shadow of the Acropolis was even more of a highlight that I will remember every time I see other sculptures.
