Today started off with a visit to another museum in Athens. There we saw what I thought to be some of the greatest spectacles that I have seen so far. There was the shipwreck statue of Zeus/Poseidon, the replica of the Athena statue, and the gold artifacts that were from the prehistoric era. These spectacles were all very awe inspiring; the gold of the artifacts looks like it had been crafted and molded yesterday but it is really over 4000 years old, Zeus/ Poseidon was not missing anything but his weapon, and the Athena sculpture was the most intricate I had seen. After this most of the group set off to spend their day at the coast of Athens. Kyle and myself stayed behind. I needed to do laundry and Kyle needed to get a nap in; I was on my last pair of socks and underwear while Kyle had been out til the early morning hours. We got back and the drama started to unfold. First I took my laundry to where I had been told to go and couldn't really find the place. I then ascended up the stairs to the reception desk
where I was going to ask where the facilities were. The place was locked up and I didn't see anyone around. I went back to wait and see if they were just away from the office. I then went back to the place and I found the laundry room but it was locked up saying "only open during business hours"... I was thinking to myself they had been open this time last weekend. So I went and asked Professors Finitsis and Ihssen about the matter and they did not know either. They had a washer in their room but they couldn't work it. I messed with it long enough and got it to work. I threw my laundry in, and proceeded to wait. I was thinking that it wouldn't take that long, but I was wrong because in Greece the wash cycles are much longer than back in states. Everyone was gone at this point and my day had been spent on laundry, so my profs asked me out to dinner with them. We chatted over some amazing food and drink; I had the rabbit which was to my amazement very good. I then went back to their apartment so that I could pick up my laundry out of the washer. What do you know... couldn't get the door open. So we ran the cycle again so that it might unlock this time. Nope couldn't get it that time either so we figured we got the go ahead from facilities to use any force necessary to get the door open. That's what we did. Dr. Ihssen and I took two wine bottle/ beer bottle openers and pryed the door off. I think that we broke the lock system, but we got the go ahead from Poppy the facilities management Lady to go ahead and do that if we needed to. As we speak my clothes are hanging up on the rack in my room drying. I guess that laundry here in CYA is not the easiest thing in the world. As well that ends well and now I have fresh socks and underwear for our hike to Acropolis Hill tomorrow :)
