Today, our first full day in Athens, wasn't too eventful - considering due to jet lag, I ended up sleeping through most of the morning and afternoon. Hopefully getting that added sleep time will help me conquer jet lag once and for all and be able to enjoy everything this city has to offer. Even though I slept far longer than I had planned, the day wasn't completely wasted. After watching the movie
Agora and talking about identity issues, we stopped at a tavern for a "Welcome to Greece" dinner. The food was absolutely delicious. Greek salad with olives, tomatoes, and cucumbers; fried zucchini; Greek meatballs; plus a platter of all kinds of meat from chicken, to pork, to beef comprised this mouthwatering meal. After this first formal introduction to Greek cuisine, I must say I am looking forward to eating more of this! And if we continue with our evening strolls that take us across the city and up mountainous staircases, I don't think I'll have to worry about over-indulging. All in all, it was a good first full day in this city, though jet lag prevented me from truly making the most of the day. I can't wait to become used to the time difference and make the most of every minute I have in this amazing city.
