Beware of Greeks Bearing Gifts

The context behind this title can be a little confusing. I think it's best interpreted as a reminder of the story of the Trojan horse, when the Greek army infiltrated the gates of Troy using a wooden horse filled with soldiers.

Don't take things at face value. Maybe that's the point of remembering the Trojan horse for us. As we've traveled this past month, we've all had our expectations for Greece shattered. I don't know that anyone on this trip really knew what we were getting into, but the history and culture here have floored us. We've been able to become immersed in modern and ancient Greek culture, learning the ins and outs of society. We could have stuck to our hopes and preconceived notions for what we thought Greece would hold for us, but we would have missed out on what we found, instead. In this way, it's not so much that we must be wary of Greeks bearing gifts, but be wary that the real gift doesn't go unnoticed.
