Let me start off by saying that the flight to Rhodes is a very short flight in comparison to the hours that you spend flying cross-Atlantic, but I still hate planes. That being said I am still doing better than I have in the past and I don't know if that has to do with the fact that I just am getting used to planes or that this flight was only 40 minutes long. Even though it was a short flight I was surprisingly nervous for the landing. This was because we had to drop below the cloud layer much sooner than another airport, and we had to do this for because of the thick cloud layer and the precise landing needed for the island. The blog title says I can see Turkey from my house; that's true but while we were flying in I had no idea that was Turkey because I was just looking at the water that seemed like we were going to plunge into. I kid you not it felt like we were flying around a couple thousand feet for at least ten minutes, and in these ten minutes I completely sweated out my shirt out of anxiety. I always feel that I am the closest to God when I am in flight. I want to make sure that I have told him all of my sins and even tell him that if we make a 10 hour flight over the Atlantic Ocean with an outside air temp of -66 degrees Celsius I might give up some said habit that I am repenting. I am going to soak up every minute of being able to see Turkey from my balcony because when I can't that will mean that I will be in a fuselage for an hour back to Athens, three hours to Amsterdam, and ten hours to the US. Be thankful those of you who do not have a fear of planes; it really stinks having to fear flying but a wanting to see the world. Guess I am just going to have to get used to it or try and find a medication that doesn't let me know I'm flying.
