In my adventures so far in Athens, i have experienced many new things. From eating their food, to having to use their restrooms... But one thing I did not expect to do while i was on this adventure, was experience one of their religious services. Yesterday, i was one of 6 students, plus the our 2 professors, to go and experience a Greek Orthodox service. I felt it was absolutely wonderful, and very moving. First off, just the building this clergy is able to worship is absolutely breath taking. Beautiful mosaics of saints and and other holy figures. Although the service was entirely in Greek, i believe, i was still able to understand more basic parts of the service. That being the breaking of the bread, and the Lord's prayer. Although, there were many parts that were completely foreign to me, but in a sense i don't wish to understand. This being because i don't want to take away from their traditions. I feel as though, if everything knew everything about the Greek Orthodox tradition, the Greek themselves would lose part of their culture. I feel as though each religion has it little secrets and only it's clergy should know them. Just a little bit extra, to keep them in the loop. DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND PEOPLE!!!
